Discovering opportunities in green construction
Professional practice reflective journal

Work Activities
During my third week at GetZero, I attended UK Construction Week in Birmingham, exploring developments in sustainable construction, workforce skills and potential partnerships.
I followed sessions covering the West Midlands construction sector, Early Contractor Involvement and artificial intelligence in construction. These discussions helped me understand changing industry priorities and emerging skills requirements.
I also explored LinkedIn as a business development tool, using it to identify relevant organisations, research potential contacts and support engagement before and after industry events. The initial outcomes were promising for GetZero's partnership development efforts.
Personal Reflection
This experience broadened my understanding of the construction industry and reinforced the importance of combining face-to-face networking with digital relationship building.
I realised that attending an industry event is only one stage of business development. LinkedIn can help prepare for conversations beforehand, maintain connections afterwards and turn initial encounters into potential opportunities.
The discussions around Early Contractor Involvement also highlighted the value of building relationships before projects and opportunities become formalised.
Reflecting on the market-entry challenges identified during Week 2, I recognised that smaller organisations such as GetZero need a consistent approach to stakeholder engagement rather than relying on occasional networking events.
Moving forward, I aim to use LinkedIn more strategically, prioritising relevant contacts, personalising outreach and following up systematically to support long-term partnership development.
